Redeux!

There are many times in life when we want a redeux!  (redo!)  Most of the time, we are not able to, but happily, in the world of miniatures we are able to redeux to our little hearts content.  The Box Windows needed a redeux, so just sharing the results.  Therefore, no real progress beyond catching up to where I once was, but I am much happier with the result!

You probably could tell from my last post that I was not too happy with progress.  After that post, I kept looking at the windows, and I just could not reconcile myself to the aluminum sheathing, because it was just too creased, and I knew if I didn't redo it, I would be unhappy with it for the life of the project.  So I decided to make a change.

Basically, all I did was to rip off the aluminum sheathing (a scary proposition!), and cut new sheathing out of mount board, painted it up the same way as the aluminum, and started gluing.  I am SO much happier with it and now feel like I can move on to bigger and better things!

I have little more to share, so unlike most of my posts, this one is a short one!  Oh, and you can see just the slightest hint of the next step if you look closely at the first photo above.  This plus the hint in the last post should give you a pretty good idea of what may be coming!

Thanks for letting me share my redeux!

  1. Hi Doug, you have to be happy with it and I totally get why you removed the aluminium. I'm pleased you kept that beautiful colour though. Hmm, is the base about to be rendered with some texture?

    1. Hi Pepper! Yes, I love the color of the windows, and am excited about making it all come together.

I haven't even gotten to the idea of textures yet! So that didn't happen to be it. Of course I have some ideas, but I am learning fast, ideas are not reality quite yet! :0)

      Thanks Pepper!

  2. Hi Doug! I think that if your feeling (about something in miniature) is not well enough and if you are able to change it and the outcome is much better, well, do it :D!
    Next step? The base?
    Wishing you a nice Sunday/week.

    1. Hi there Ilona! I sure feel better after having changed the windows. I am sure that they would have been fine before, but I tend toward perfectionism and I was finding myself unhappy with them. So off they came!

You are correct, of course, I am working the base. :0) I made good progress yesterday, so I'll reveal that soon. However, now I am obsessing about color. lol. So it may take a day or two!

      Enjoy your week!

  3. Hi Doug....I can fully understand that feeling of something niggling at you and not being just what you want. It's like looking at a picture that is hanging crookedly...it would just stand out like a sore thumb each and every time I would be in the room - and worse than that, when I'm not in the room.... I think I have serious issues:) I'm so glad you are happier with the 'window situation' now! I'd say the base of the manor is going to get sorted now - and get the 'Doug' treatment :)
All the best and take care

    1. Hey Vivian! That picture analogy is perfect, it is exactly what was happening. I am much happier with it all now, and I am excited to show you all what has been happening behind the scenes in the last few days. Let's just say I am having fun.! :0)

Hope you are getting some of the gorgeous weather we've had on this side of the world! I have been working outside today, it feels SO good!

      Enjoy your week!

  4. Hi Doug! I missed your last post because of some Major computer problems that have since been fixed, but I must say that this finish around the windows is far superior to the last! Your window finish is cleaner and it looks really sharp! Well Done!!!! :D

    1. Morning Elizabeth. It sure is! I am a whole lot happier with it this go around. I'm sorry about the computer problems, that seems to be the equivalent of the horses getting out of the corral in todays world. Never know when they will hit, and how difficult they will be to fix. Glad you got it all worked through!

      Have a good day!

  5. Hello Doug,
I was going to talk about how great your windows looked in your last post, but saw this one and I think you made the perfect decision. They looked terrific in your last post, but something like that would eventually drive you nuts and ruin your amazing project. Well done!
    Big hug,

    1. Welcome back Giac! We all miss you when you aren't paying attention! :0) Glad to have you in blogland again for a bit! I hope your bathroom remodel went well, and you are extremely happy with the result. Hopefully, there won't be any "reduex's" in your immediate future. RL bathrooms are much more expensive to redeux!

I do like the newer version of the window boxes much better myself. I just cannot wait to finish them up! Always in a big ol' toot, I am. And Why? I cannot answer that. :0)

      Thanks for the comment!
